ABOUT ME
Having been in the construction industry for the last 31 years I have worked for some great local companies and have had the opportunity to learn and work in some specialist areas. After a 5 year apprenticeship in all aspects of brickwork I went on to build for 13 years, this then lead me into the insurance repair industry where I then spent a further 15 years. During that period of time I left my tools behind and moved into management, surveying, estimating and adjusting.
Over the last few years I have taken a break from the rat race and took time to just do my own thing, I quickly realised that getting up at 5:30am to spend time on the road looking at insurance claims up and down the country was no longer for me, but I quickly realised that the time I was spending in Aylsham was not enough...!
So I enjoy design & drawing so submit my own plans, I complete all building aspect of a typical ground floor extension, I maintain my own home inside and out, I have inspected close to 1000 properties and have advised on insurance claims, structural issues, subsidence & home buyers reports and love decorating....so why not work where you live.
History
The photos above show the places where I have built & worked as part of a team or on my own. It all started age 16 working on the bakery extension in Asda, I was with Wilmott Dixon Ltd throughout my apprenticeship until they moved to a man management structure in 1991. Working in Colgate converting the old Norvic Shoe factory, building a School in Huntington & a block of flats on Westwick Street in Norwich were just a few of the projects.
Straight after that its was back to Colgate in Norwich and the conversion of a run down Georgian Malting's into what we know as "The Norwich Playhouse". Taking the building from a crumbling riverside wreck to the building it is now.
Abroad next and the fall of the Berlin wall, this sparked a shortage of trades in the UK as Germany was busy re-building the former East Germany. BMW Garages, Hotels & Apartments just to mention a few.
Back to the Uk, the economy was booming, so the next two years saw me building houses in Taverham, a school in Lowestoft and a Tesco at Harford Bridges.
In 1996 I reunited with old friends to go house building again, Melton Constable, Foxley & Bawdeswell, this 5 year period was spent working for a local developer and was probably the most enjoyable. You couldn't really call it work.
2001 saw me join the insurance repair network and there I stayed for 15 years, initially carrying out insurance related repairs to all manor of buildings I was offered a chance to learn about how an insurance claim works and the process involved in making a claim. So 15 years of Surveying, Estimating, Adjusting & Managing takes me to 2018.
So 2019 will see me working for myself and in the town I have lived for the last 13 years. Love Aylsham........
